Meet Dr. Kumar

Kochi, India
Dr. Kumar with patient and patient's family

Dr. Krishna Kumar (KK) faced a monumental challenge when he helped establish a cardiac program in Kochi, India.

Before the hospital even opened its doors, there were 150 patients already waiting outside. This hospital was the first of its kind in southern India dedicated to cardiac care.

Dr. KK and his team were compelled to move quickly because of the number of patients who had long awaited this kind of care.

Today, Amrita Hospital, Kochi has earned accolades for exceptional standards of care. They are also recognized as a Children’s HeartLink Center of Excellence, providing training for other cardiac teams in their region.

“As I see it, Children’s HeartLink has served as a key catalyst in many of our efforts towards building a Center of Excellence. Many of our key initiatives that have dramatically transformed the outlook of children who get care at Amrita Hospital have been facilitated by Children’s HeartLink. We especially value this collaboration because it is based on mutual respect and largely dictated by our specific requirements. It is a true partnership that has never been prescriptive.”
Dr. Krishna Kumar

Although Dr. KK credits Children’s HeartLink with being a catalyst, the program at Amrita Hospital, Kochi would not have become the program it is today without his visionary leadership. His dedication and passion for helping those in need have transformed the lives of countless children and their families who now have access to quality care for heart disease.
