Thank you Medical Volunteers for Another Transformative Year!

Medical volunteer teams are the heart of our bold new five-year strategic plan: to double the number of Children’s HeartLink Centers of Excellence and drive policy and system changes needed to expand access to pediatric cardiac care.

Generously donating time and skills, our medical volunteers partner with doctors, nurses and healthcare professionals in low resources settings to improve heart care programs for children born with heart disease.

In 2025, Children’s HeartLink worked with 13 medical volunteers team and 15 partner hospital teams in training.

Thank you for your dedication to advancing pediatric heart care on a global scale!

Volunteer Team Highlight: University of California San Francisco

With Vietnam National Children’s Hospital’s (VNCH) recent designation as a Children’s HeartLink Center of Excellence, we recognize the outstanding contributions and dedication of our medical volunteers from the University of California San Francisco (UCSF)!

Since 2017, there have been 12 visits from the UCSF team to Vietnam National Children’s Hospital—5 of whom have visited 9+ times. Learn about the incredible difference they’ve made for pediatric heart care in Vietnam:

“[The UCSF team has] given invaluable assistance and direction to VNCH, helping bridge the gap between medical knowledge and practice. The selfless devotion and limitless inspiration from mentors to the VNCH team have enabled us to achieve progress together and save the lives of many complicated congenital heart patients while also improving the quality of diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart patients in Vietnam.”
Dr. Nguyen Ly Thinh Truong, pediatric cardiac surgeon, Head of CardioVascular Surgery and Director of Heart Center at NVCH
