Meet Mohamed

Coimbatore, India
Mohamed with family

Mohamed was born with a relatively rare heart defect that required complex surgery. Although Mohamed’s heart defect was complex, he didn’t have to wait for years to have his heart repaired.

Thanks to our training partnership, his heart repair was made possible. Timely surgery helped him recover quickly and keep up with other children his age.

Today, he is an active toddler. Like other children his age, he is busy playing and has a healthy appetite.

The connection to Children’s HeartLink

Mohamed’s surgeon, Dr. Raju Vijayakumar (Vijay) at G. Kuppusamy Naidu Memorial Hospital in Coimbatore, India, received guidance in this complex operation from Children’s HeartLink medical volunteer Dr. Christopher Baird, a surgeon from Boston Children’s Hospital.

With the training and mentorship of Dr. Baird, Dr. Vijay can now perform this relatively rare, complex operation independently and use this expertise to save more lives.
