Guided by a spirit of altruism, expertise and compassion, our medical volunteer teams generously donate their time, talents and skills, partnering with doctors, nurses and healthcare professionals across the world.
Advancing pediatric heart care on a global scale
Our medical volunteers are global leaders in pediatric cardiac care. Oftentimes, they use their own paid time off to fly for multi-day training trips to share their skills and knowledge with heart care teams at hospital partners in the most underserved regions of the world.
Through hands-on training and collaboration, they partner with healthcare professionals to train on the latest advancements and best practices, ultimately improving the quality of care for children with congenital heart conditions.
Children’s HeartLink medical volunteer teams come from top teaching and research institutions around the world.

Stories from our medical volunteer teams
One-third of Children’s HeartLink medical volunteers are nurses and nurse educators. We asked what drives their commitment to this work and what they’ve seen as a result.
While their stories are varied, they all share one common denominator: selflessness.
Dr. Peter Hesslein’s journey first began with Children’s HeartLink in 1994. He has remained a medical volunteer and longtime supporter for 30 years.
Working with teams in India to establish a cardiac center in southern India, his involvement was instrumental in helping the Amrita Hospital, Kochi achieve world-class standards of care.
He didn’t stop there.
