Little Lis’s journey began with uncertainty. “I thought we were going to lose her,” said an emotional Janaína, Lis’s mother.

Lis was born with Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), a complex form of congenital heart disease (CHD). Alongside TOF, Lis was swiftly diagnosed with another congenital disorder, plunging her family into a fight for her life.

Thanks to the expertise of the dedicated pediatric heart care team at Children’s HeartLink Center of Excellence Hospital da Criança e Maternidade (HCM) in Rio Preto, Brazil, Lis underwent a successful series of surgeries, including a correction of her heart condition.

Months of intensive care followed, but Lis emerged resilient. Today, Lis is thriving, and her future is filled with possibilities.

“She recovered well. She is very strong. She is very chubby. I would like to thank the entire medical team.”

Lis’s mother, who also happens to be a nurse at HCM, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the medical and nursing teams, acknowledging the pivotal role of the Children’s HeartLink partnership that supports and provides training for her daughter’s heart care team, helping them grow into the lifesaving resource she knew she could trust with her daughter’s life.

In their journey to become a Children’s HeartLink Center of Excellence providing high-quality heart care for children born with CHD, HCM was partnered with Children’s HeartLink medical volunteers from Children’s Minnesota and Mayo Clinic.
