Meet Phuc
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
Before Phuc was born, her mother was told that her baby had heart defects which would be very difficult to treat in Vietnam.
Determined to bring her baby into the world and raise her in the best possible way, Phuc’s mother connected with Dr. Vu Minh Phuc – the cardiologist who leads the partnership between the hospital Nhi Dong 1 in Vietnam and Children’s HeartLink.
Because of the Children’s HeartLink training partnership, Dr. Phuc’s team was able to deliver the high-quality care needed for little Phuc’s complex condition when she was 2 years old – saving her life and becoming her namesake.
Today, Phuc is an active, loving schoolgirl who loves to draw and play with her friends. She eagerly attends school, where intensive English is her favorite class, and spends weekends playing with her neighborhood friends.
She makes her mother proud by insisting on putting money into charity boxes whenever she sees them, evidence that she has a good heart like her mother always hoped for her. None of this seemed possible before her lifesaving surgery, but now Phuc is not only surviving; she’s thriving.
